Wallace awarded Best Blues Festival title by IEBS
Shoshone News Press/Chanse Watson
(WALLACE, ID) — Residents of Wallace [Idaho] would say that they knew their blues festival was the best in the region already, but last Thursday, it was officially confirmed by the Inland Empire Blues Society (IEBS) at their 24th Annual Awards Ceremony in Spokane.Made up of blues enthusiasts across the Pacific Northwest, the nonprofit Blues Society handed out 22 awards on Nov 8 to performers and venues alike for their musical contributions. Many of the award winners performed (or have performed) in Wallace, such as Tiphony Dames, who won Best Female Blues Performer.

As for the honor of best festival — Wallace would end up beating out the Winthrop Rhythm & Blues Festival and the Sunbanks Music festival for the crown.Put on by the Historic Wallace Arts Council and Too Far North Productions, it seems the 7th edition of the Wallace Blues Festival held in July was the funkiest of them all.

Tommy DarDar :: BIG DADDY GUMBO
Houston music legend Tommy Dardar, affectionately dubbed ‘Big Daddy Gumbo’ Dardar had played alongside Lightnin’ Hopkins, Jimmy Reed, John Lee Hooker, Bo Diddley, Willie Dixon, The Neville Brothers and more during his storied career.

The July 18, 2017 death of Tommy Dardar stunned the blues community and left a void that will never be filled. His 1999 release, Fool For Love, served notice to the world what his family, friends, and fans had known for years, that Tommy was an extremely gifted songwriter, powerful vocalist and one of the finest harp players on the Gulf Coast. With his untimely death, many feared that release would be his last. He had begun work on a follow-up project in 2001, but financial considerations and life have a funny way of showing up and putting the best laid plans on the back burner.

His closest friends and musical cohorts were aware of these unfinished recordings and undertook the effort to see that they were not left on a shelf to gather dust. Enter Grammy Award winner Tony Braunagel, life-long friend and musical collaborator, who took it upon himself to pick up the baton and finish the project in his memory.
