Mud Morganfield & Kim Wilson ::
FOR POPS - A TRIBUTE TO MUDDY WATERS
For Pops (A Tribute to Muddy Waters), on Severn Records, is a very special CD from Mud Morganfield, son of the legendary bluesman, and Kim Wilson, singer/harmonica player of the iconic roots group, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, saluting the classic blues music of Mud’s father in the 100th anniversary year of his birth.
 
The genesis for this recording project was simple, according to Severn president David Earl. “I couldn’t ignore all the requests,” he said. “After we released Mud Morganfield’s Son of the 7th Son album and The Fabulous Thunderbirds’ On the Verge disc, the phone was ringing off the hook and the inbox was flooded with emails. The topic was always the same: ‘You have to get Mud and Kim to do an album together!'

JW Jones :: BELMONT BOULEVARD
Canadian guitar slinger/singer JW-Jones’ Belmont Boulevard on Blind Pig Records was produced in Nashville by Grammy-winning producer Tom Hambridge, who’s helmed projects for Buddy Guy, George Thorogood, and Susan Tedeschi. JW chose Hambridge to produce because “This CD is all about getting out of my comfort zone musically and lyrically, working with a big producer and creating a high-energy experience that matches our live show, and I knew Tom was the man to make that happen.”

Blues Fest plans for Waters, Dixon tributes
CHICAGO, IL (Chicago Tribune) - Chicago blues legends Muddy Waters and Willie Dixon will be honored with what’s billed as a “special centennial celebration” at the 32nd annual Chicago Blues Festival in June in Grant Park.

The festivities will unfold on June 14, with Billy Branch and the Sons of Blues kicking off the music at 5:30 p.m. at the Petrillo Music Shell.
A Willie Dixon homage will start at 6:30 p.m. featuring Branch, Dixon family members, Sugar Blue, John Watkins and others.

A Muddy Waters tribute will start at 8:15 p.m. and will spotlight Bob Margolin, Mud Morganfield, Big Bill Morganfield, John Primer, Rick Kreher, Bob Stroger, Kenny “Beedy Eyes” Smith, E.G. McDaniel, Paul Oscher, Jerry Portnoy and Barrelhouse Chuck.
The Chicago Blues Festival will run June 12-14 in Grant Park; the complete schedule will be released in the spring.

Generation Blues Applications Due March 15
The Blues Foundation’s Generation Blues scholarship program is now accepting applications for young performers under the age of 21 to receive financial assistance to study their instrument of choice at reputable camps, seminars and workshop programs this summer. The deadline for submitting applications is a bit earlier this year–in our hands on or before March 15. If you know of a young performer who may be interested, hip them to this great opportunity to learn and hang with other young people who dig playing the blues.
