Victor Wainwright & The WildRoots :: BOOM TOWN
Boom Town, the latest release from Victor Wainwright and the WildRoots, has certainly enhanced the pianist’s notoriety in America and on the international level. Wainwright, one of the most dynamic and exciting keyboard performers on the roots music scene, is known for his high-octane boogie piano, big soul sounds, powerhouse blues, roots rock 'n' roll, and a voice that recalls Dr. John and Leon Russell.

Because of his remarkable keyboard and performance skills, Victor sometimes doesn’t get enough credit for his equally impressive vocals. His soulful and authentic singing voice, strong with just the right amount of gruffness, suits his very easy, relaxed vocal delivery that works comfortably with both slow and up-tempo numbers. Columbia's Free Blues Festival Comes Back Strong!
COLUMBIA, SC - Columbia’s 20th Blues Festival (Saturday, Oct. 24), hosted by Word of Mouth Productions, is a delightful multi-cultural event held in the green space of Dr. MLK, Jr. Memorial Park in Five Points, at the heart of Columbia. As the region's preeminent “free concert,” timing has never been better to announce its headliners. Drink Small, SC's legendary "Blues Doctor," has just been honored as a 2015 National Endowment for the Arts Heritage Fellow - the nation's highest folk artist award. He is just one of six SC natives to receive this recognition.

WOMP is also pleased to feature Jazz, with the immensely talented saxophonist, SC's Jazz Ambassador Skipp Pearson. Back by popular demand, is Denver’s Eddie Turner, the scintillating firebrand that gave Otis Taylor’s trance tunes such an appealing edge. Joining Eddie as a multiple invitee, is Freddie Vanderford, who took some special early training at the feet of an upstate hokum / medicine-show phenom, Peg Leg Sam. Teacher of Year Candidate 'never tires' of learning more about music
“I used the concept of the 12-bar blues song to illustrate biology. Since the song repeats when you move through all of the bars, it transitions easily into a discussion of the cyclical nature of an animal’s life cycle… In other cases, I’ve used (it) to teach history lessons or examine other cultures. To be an effective music teacher you have to make your lessons as diverse as possible.”

AUGUSTA, GA - Phyllis Porter-Johnson said she couldn’t remember a point in her life where she wasn’t exposed to music. The Jenkins-White Elementary School [Augusta, Georgia] music teacher said she fondly remembers listening to classical music, hymns and jazz music alongside her parents and watching her older siblings play a piano near her childhood home in Augusta.
